I usually head for a snowboard holiday (note holiday not work trip) in January but due to the snowboard test in La Clusaz and all the trade shows it just was not possible this year. I was therefore really happy to be invited on a road trip to Flaine. This resort is really quite different to anything I have ever been to. It was designed by Bauhaus architect Marcel Breuer to fit in with the natural surroundings and have a reduced impact on the ecosystem.
Unlike when I went to La Clusaz and Avoriaz in January – there was snow! Not much mind but enough to give us a couple of really good days at the beginning of the week. Unfortunately my lack of fitness took its toll and I hurt my back. This caused me to lose a couple of days riding. I must have trapped a nerve or something as walking was incredibly painful. After a couple of days rest all was good though and I was back riding. I rode the Never Summer Proto CT – and absolutely loved it!
This was my main snowboarding holiday for 2011 – I will be back on the snow for the UK Snowboard Test in May!
