Another winter season is upon us, and it was good to get my first turns in. Arriving in Alpbach Friday evening the snow was falling pretty heavily. A lot more than was forecast. It was much needed judging from the webcam shots I had seen earlier in the week. We set up our boards and got our stuff ready for the next day before heading out for dinner. Shot below from just outside the restaurant at the bottom of the valley.
The next morning things were looking good – it was still dumping snow but visibility was not great. It is good to get those first turns out of the way though and find your legs. The flat light and fresh snow together with it being almost a year since I last stepped on a snowboard, made for a steady start. It was of course fun blasting round the hill till our legs were burning so we stopped for some Austrian cuisine and a couple of beers.
The trip was mostly a work one, so the next few days were spent doing quick laps, testing some new boards and turning screws on the stand. It has been a few years since these events last ran, and I think most people were pretty excited this stuff was happening again.
With the business side of things done, there was time for one last day on the hill. A bluebird day smashing around well groomed pistes, with a couple of breaks for little beers and an incredible burger. This is what it is all about.
