Wet and windy in the Black Mountains

The weather rarely does what you want it to do during the British winter. Plan a hike in the hills and you had best pack your waterproofs. This day was pitched as a scenic hike followed by a great lunch. It rained all day on the Friday and all night Friday night. There was a sense it may be rained out by Saturday morning. As we approached the Black Mountains it became obvious there was plenty more rain to come.

Full waterproofs it is. The paths could easily be confused with streams. The wind was so strong on the tops you had to crouch. Good to get out – but also nice to get out of weather once done.

The Bull’s Head in Craswall was the perfect place to retreat to. That classic old stone pub that has worn flagstone floors that prove it has been there forever. Inside it great food and perfect pints.
